The Society of Biology is pleased to announce the winners of their BioArtAttack competition.

BioArtAttack encouraged young people to create science inspired art works as part of the run up to Biology Week.

The winner of the under 11 category is 'Bees: How Honey is Made', by Cefnllys Science Club.

Judge Jenni Lacey said "it was clear to see that the students had put a lot of effort into the video and it contained a great deal of scientific understanding of bee behaviour".

The winner of the 11-18 years old category is Fatema Mohsen with 'Rat dissection' in which a detailed plasticine model is used to explain the internal anatomy of a rat.

Jenni Lacey, a BioArt Attack judge said "we were completely overwhelmed by the level of detail Fatema went into and the intricate level of biological understanding that it demonstrated".

There were over 100 entries from schools, science clubs and individuals worldwide, on a variety of topics from disease to fertilisation.

The competition judges were Lisa Coneyworth, from the University of Nottingham, and Jenni Lacey, from the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE), who created the competition.

Rat dissection was popular with both the judges and the public, receiving over half of the 500 public votes in our People's Choice Award poll on our YouTube channel.

Fatema is attending the awards ceremony tonight with her parents and teacher, where she will be presented with her prizes. Unfortunately, Cefnllys Science Club could not attend, but have created an acceptance video which will be played at the event on their behalf.

The competition was sponsored by Hue Animation with winners receiving a Hue Animation kit.
